Treatments available in Polegate & Burwash, East Sussex
Our expert podiatrist and founder of Podiatry & Wellness Clinic, Lorraine Humphrey, has provided high-quality treatments to hundreds of patients across East Sussex. Lorraine also works closely with practitioners in other medical disciplines to ensure her patients get the best care possible, including fast access to antibiotics, pain relief, other prescription medicines, and laboratory tests. Lorraine attends regular training courses and branch meetings for CPD to ensure she keeps up to date with the latest advances in podiatry.
Lorraine’s career with feet began in 2001 when she studied reflexology at the Association of Reflexology in London. She then wanted to take her training further afield and studied Podiatry at the University of Brighton in 2009. During this time, she also worked at Lewisham Hospital, practicing podiatry on a wide range of patients.
Graduating in 2012 with a BSc (hons) degree in Podiatry, she went on to open her own successful business, Polegate Podiatry & Health Clinic in March 2013. As well as working with hundreds of patients in Polegate, Lorraine also opened a small clinic in Burwash where she continues to work every Tuesday. Lorraine decided in 2018 that this wasn’t enough so she volunteered for St John Ambulance in Brighton and Hove, offering podiatry to the homeless people in need. She then went on to win the Argos Award for Achievement for her volunteer work with the team at St John Ambulance.
In 2019, Lorraine relocated and opened her new business, Podiatry & Wellness Clinic, where she now works with Jane Gosden, Ellie Reeder, Nicky Yates and Caroline Hollands, providing a range of services to the local community. Lorraine is also the lead podiatrist at the Priory Psychiatric Hospital in Heathfield where she has gained a brilliant understanding of mental health.
Jane Gosden’s career with feet first started in 1984 when she trained and worked as a Foot Health Practitioner for Scholls, working mainly in Eastbourne, Brighton and London. She also spent some time teaching clinical skills at the Scholl training centre in London and Worthing.
In 1997, after spending time backpacking, Jane decided to fulfil her lifelong dream of becoming a nurse which led to a great career as a specialist renal nurse at the Sussex Kidney Unit. She also took a sabbatical and worked as a nurse in New Zealand!
In 2014, Jane returned to Brighton University to complete her podiatry degree, which lead to her working in the NHS as a podiatrist where she gained invaluable experience working with diabetic patients and those with rheumatoid arthritis, various auto immune disorders and neuropathy.
In 2019, Jane brought her wealth of experience and knowledge to our very own Podiatry & Wellness Clinic, to work alongside our founder and podiatrist, Lorraine Humphrey. Jane offers appointments on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Ellie is a recent addition to Podiatry & Wellness Clinic, holding a 1st Class Honours degree in Podiatry from the University of Brighton.
Whilst Ellie was completing her training, she worked alongside Lorraine at Polegate Podiatry & Health Clinic in 2015 and 2016, gaining invaluable experience in private podiatry care.
Ellie has a keen interest in all areas of podiatry and has already began building up a great clientele at Polegate Podiatry & Wellness Clinic. Ellie works with us 1-2 days per week.
Nicky Yates offers holistic and individualised acupuncture treatments at Podiatry & Wellness Clinic. She studied for three years at the International College of Oriental Medicine gaining a BSc (Hons) degree in Acupuncture. She is a member of the British Acupuncture Council (MBAcC), the largest UK regulatory body for professional acupuncturists.
Nicky is also an ITEC qualified massage therapist, and is pleased to offer the innovative Hydrotherm Massage which is a unique all-over body massage where you relax on warm water cushions and remain face up throughout the entire treatment. She also offers Holistic Massage and Indian Head Massage.
Caroline Hollands is a Specialist Musculoskeletal Physiotherapist with over 20 years of clinical experience in both the NHS and the independent sector. She is highly skilled in diagnosing and managing various conditions that might affect different areas of the body.
Having progressed to an Advanced Practitioner level within the NHS, she is able to apply these higher level skills, knowledge and decision making within her work in the independent sector. She believes clear communication is an essential skill which she is able to offer to allow her patients to understand their diagnosis and to enable them to be jointly involved in deciding what is the best way to collaboratively manage it.
Caroline graduated from Brunel University in 2000 with a BSc (Hons) in Physiotherapy, and is regulated by The Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). Caroline is also a member of the Chartered Society for Physiotherapists (MCSP), the Acupuncture Association of Chartered Physiotherapists (AACP), the Advanced Practice Physiotherapy Network (APPN) and the Association of Chartered Physiotherapists in Orthopaedic Medicine and Injection Therapy (ACPOMIT).
Over time she has developed a special interest in Lower Limb conditions and rehabilitation of sporting injuries. Working alongside Orthopaedic and Sports Injury Specialists has been valuable in her physiotherapy development. Participating in ongoing learning allows her to stay informed with the latest research in the Profession (Evidence Based Practice).
Aaron Knowles, who specialises in tissue viability and lymphoedema, attends Podiatry & Wellness Clinic once a month as a guest podiatrist.
Aaron completed his podiatry training at the University of Brighton with Lorraine in 2009-2012 and went straight into wound care services specialising in the diabetic foot. Over the years this developed into general lower limb wounds including upskilling in advanced bandaging techniques, pressure relief including offloading of the foot, martini style slipper cast/heel cast, biomechanics and advanced debridement.
During this time, he often encountered lymphoedema in the limbs so has completed a further training course in specialist lymphoedema treatment of the whole body. He took to this new area of treatment well and has since become one of the Lymphoedema Training Academy trainers and promotes/provides training for all health care professionals in lymphoedema and lipoedema while leading the lymphoedema service locally.
Aaron is keen to work with us while taking a special interest in biomechanics, nail surgery and advanced podiatry techniques.
