Formthotics
Manage Musculoskeletal Foot Pain
Formthotics can provide improvements in pain and function, particularly when used in the early stages of conditions such as plantar fasciitis and tendon-related pain.
Manage Pressure, Skin Breakdown and High Risk Areas
Evidence shows that Formthotics can reduce plantar pressures and improve pressure distribution, which is a key factor in both symptom relief and tissue protection.
Falls Prevention and Stability in Older Adults
Formthotics can help improve comfort and stability when you’re on your feet. The best results tend to come when they're used alongside exercise and guidance from your podiatrist.
Targeted Foot Support for Real Clinical Conditions
Foot pain is rarely simple, and effective treatment should reflect that.
Formthotics are clinically customisable orthotics designed to offload stressed tissues, redistribute pressure, and support movement. They are used as part of a broader, evidence-based approach to managing a wide range of lower limb conditions.
The insoles will be made during your appointment, using the Formthotics heating machine, meaning you can go away and begin to feel the instant benefits of your new insoles.

Managing Musculoskeletal Foot Pain
Many common foot and ankle conditions are driven by one key factor: excess or poorly distributed load through specific tissues.
These include:
-
Plantar fasciitis / plantar fasciopathy
-
Posterior tibial tendon dysfunction
-
Achilles tendinopathy
-
Plantar plate injuries
-
Interdigital neuroma
-
Hallux limitus / rigidus
-
Arthritic foot and ankle pain
-
Metatarsalgia and forefoot overload
In a biomechanics appointment, we assess how you move, where stress is occurring, and which structures are being overloaded.
Research shows that foot orthotics can provide improvements in pain and function, particularly when used in the early stages of conditions such as plantar fasciitis and tendon-related pain.
Formthotics are valuable in this setting because they can be adapted in clinic to offload specific tissues, whether that is reducing strain on the plantar fascia, supporting the medial column in posterior tibial tendon dysfunction, or redistributing pressure away from the forefoot.
However, orthotics are not used in isolation. The best outcomes are seen when they are combined with:
-
Targeted strengthening
-
Load management
-
Footwear advice
-
Activity modification
This combined approach allows us to manage symptoms while also addressing the underlying cause.

Managing Pressure, Skin Breakdown and High-Risk Areas
If you are experiencing areas of high pressure, recurrent corns or callus, or are at risk of skin breakdown, evidence shows that orthotic devices can reduce plantar pressures and improve pressure distribution, which is a key factor in both symptom relief and tissue protection.
A key advantage of Formthotics is that they are heat-moulded directly to your feet, allowing for a personalised fit that closely matches your foot shape. This moulding process, combined with the ability to add targeted padding, cut-outs, or pressure-relieving modifications, makes Formthotics a practical and adaptable option in these cases.

Falls Prevention and Stability in Older Adults
Foot pain and altered foot function can contribute to instability and increased falls risk, particularly in older adults.
A large randomised controlled trial looked at older adults with foot pain and found that a combined podiatry approach, including foot orthotics, footwear advice, and a simple home exercise programme, helped reduce falls over a 12-month period.
What this means in practice is:
-
Orthotics can help improve comfort and stability when you’re on your feet
-
The best results tend to come when they’re used alongside exercise and guidance from your clinician
Formthotics can be a helpful part of this approach, supporting foot posture, improving comfort, and helping you feel more confident as you move throughout your day.

Book Your Appointment
Whether you are dealing with persistent foot pain, pressure-related issues, or concerns around balance and stability, our podiatrists can assess your needs and determine whether Formthotics are appropriate for you.
During your appointment, the therapist will examine your lower limbs and complete a bio-mechanical assessment.
If Formthotics are recommended, you'll work together with the therapist to select the right insoles for you, and the therapist will gently shape and mould them to the contours of your feet and shoes, using the Formthotics heating system.
The insoles will be ready within your appointment and you'll go home with your personal Formthotics insoles, and instantly begin to feel the benefits.
The insoles are priced at £120 - £130.
